Chembur Heavy Deposit Fraud: Tenants Left Without Possession as Owners Abscond

A shocking case has emerged from Chembur, where a single room was allegedly given on heavy deposit to multiple tenants. Several people paid a large deposit amount to the owners with the promise that they would receive possession of the room.

However, after taking the money, the owners failed to hand over possession. Instead, they assured tenants that they would pay a monthly amount against the heavy deposit, and if they ever defaulted, the tenant would automatically get the right to take over the room.

To gain trust, the owners even issued post-dated cheques, but soon after, they went absconding. When payments stopped and the cheques bounced, the affected parties reached out to local police for help.

This incident highlights how easily fraud happens in heavy-deposit deals when paperwork is weak and due diligence is ignored.
