The MMRDA has proposed a landmark 21-km double-deck flyover linking Shil Phata (NH-48) with Ranjnoli Junction (NH-160) via Kalyan and Dombivli. The upper deck will house three metro lines, while the lower deck will serve as a four-lane vehicular route. This mega-project, intersecting major transportation corridors (including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route), is currently in DPR stage and will significantly enhance connectivity and real-estate potential in the region.
Project Summary
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning a 21 km double-deck flyover connecting Shil Phata (on NH-48) with Ranjnoli Junction in Bhiwandi (on NH-160), passing through Dombivli and Kalyan.
-
The upper deck is planned to carry three metro lines (Metro 5, Metro 12, Metro 14) and the lower deck a four-lane vehicular carriageway.
-
It will intersect with key infrastructure corridors, including the Virar‑Alibaug Multi Modal Corridor and the Mumbai‑Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor alignment.
-
The MMRDA is in the process of appointing a consultant to prepare the detailed project report (DPR), oversee bidding and execution.
-
Construction will be challenging especially at two railway crossing points: one before Katai Naka and the other at Patri Pul in Kalyan — owing to heavy suburban rail traffic.
